Bangladesh conducts first ever nationwide typhoid vaccination campaign targeting 5 crore children

Dhaka, Oct 12 (UNI) In a major milestone in its public health sector, the Bangladesh interim government launched the country’s first-ever nationwide typhoid vaccination campaign on Sunday, aiming to immunise over 4.9-5 crore children and adolescents.
Inaugurating the campaign at Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage in Azimpur, Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum called it "shameful" that children in the country still die from typhoid, even after Dhaka successfully combatted diseases like diarrhoea and night blindness, reports Business Standard BD.
Typhoid remains endemic to various countries globally, such as India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Iraq, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Syria, Iran, Thailand, Vietnam, Argentina, Congo, Zimbabwe, China, Taiwan, Mongolia, Papa New Guinea, Fiji, Turkey, Yemen, Kuwait, Qatar, etc.
