Bangladesh Law Advisor Asif Nazrul rules out lifting Awami League ban anytime soon

Dhaka, Oct 1 (UNI) Bangladesh Law Advisor Asif Nazrul has ruled out any possibility of lifting the nationwide ban on the Awami League anytime soon, stating that the restrictions will remain in place during the expected national elections in February 2026 and maybe well after that.
His comments come amid remarks by Chief Advisor Md Yunus that the restoration of the AL's legal status as a political party was still possible, during an interview in New York on the sidelines of the UNGA session.
Speaking to journalists after visiting a Durga Puja mandap at Sree Sree Sankar Math in Barishal city, the Law Advisor said, "When a party's activities are banned, the question arises whether the ban is permanent or temporary. I don't see any possibility that the ban on Awami League activities will be lifted soon," reports Dhaka Tribune.
