Best FIFA Football Awards 2025: shortlist voting phase now open

Zurich (Switzerland), Nov 6 (UNI) Following another memorable year of on-field action around the world, FIFA is inviting the global football community to help decide which of the beautiful game’s leading lights should be nominated for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2025.

The highlight of the year was the success of the new FIFA Club World Cup in June and July, when 32 of the leading clubs on the planet came together in the United States for the first time in football history, with 2.5 million attending in person and billions more watching on around the world.

Ski mountaineering body welcomes proposed expansion at 2030 Winter Olympics

Geneva, June 12 (UNI) The International Ski Mountaineering Federation has welcomed a proposal by the International Olympic Committee to expand ski mountaineering's presence at the 2030 Olympic Winter Games in the French Alps.
The IOC Executive Board on Wednesday proposed including five ski mountaineering events in the 2030 Olympic program: men's individual, women's individual, men's sprint, women's sprint and mixed relay.

Real Madrid confirms Mourinho return on three-year contract

Madrid, June 12 (UNI) Real Madrid has confirmed Jose Mourinho as its new first team coach with the Portuguese returning 13 years after his last spell at the club.
The 63-year-old leaves Benfica with Real Madrid paying the Portuguese club a 15 million euro compensation fee (17.3 million US dollars) and has signed a three-year contract until the end of June 2029.

South Africa's Sithole receives first red card of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Mexico City, June 12 (UNI) South Africa's Sphephelo Sithole became the first player sent off at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after receiving a straight red card in his team's opening match against co-host Mexico.
The midfielder was dismissed in the 50th minute for bringing down Brian Gutierrez just outside the penalty area as the midfielder raced through on goal at Mexico City Stadium, according to Xinhua.

Japan captain Wataru Endo withdraws from World Cup due to foot injury

Washington, June 12 (UNI) Japan captain Wataru Endo has pulled out of the World Cup due to his foot injury, according to the Japan Football Association.
