Binge gaming can harm mental health of children & teens: Study

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) A recent study has revealed that binge gaming — playing video games for five or more hours at a stretch — can have serious adverse effects on the mental health of children and adolescents.
The research ‘The roles of binge gaming in social, academic and mental health outcomes and gender differences: A school-based survey in Hong Kong,’ highlights that excessive gaming is linked to higher levels of depression, anxiety, stress, poor sleep, and lower confidence in studies. Experts caution that unchecked binge gaming may lead to more severe problems like Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD), which can significantly affect a young person’s life.
A total of 2,592 primary and secondary students in Hong Kong were surveyed.
