BJP claims Karnataka hate speech bill targets Hindutva leaders

Belagavi, Dec 10 (UNI) The tabling of the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2025, in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday triggered a sharp political confrontation, with the Opposition BJP alleging that the proposed law is crafted to specifically target leaders associated with Hindutva organisations, especially in the communally sensitive coastal districts.
As Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil placed the bill before the House, BJP members immediately stood up in protest. They insisted that the legislation was unnecessary and argued that its language and timing revealed political motives.
When Speaker UT Khader put the introduction of the bill to a voice vote, declaring it tabled amidst disorder, the BJP intensified its objections, shouting that they would never agree to its passage. The House was briefly adjourned for ten minutes.
