Hyderabad, May 11 (UNI) Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha member Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly engaging in political rhetoric during his recent visit to Hyderabad despite stating that he would not discuss politics.
In a video statement released on Monday, the Congress MP said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had merely sought the Centre’s cooperation in resolving pending issues related to Telangana during the Prime Minister’s visit.
He noted that over the last two-and-a-half years, the Chief Minister had met the Prime Minister and several union Ministers on multiple occasions and submitted memorandums seeking solutions to various issues concerning the state.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s remarks at HICC, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy alleged that Modi had deviated from developmental issues and resorted to political comments. He said the Chief Minister had appealed to the Prime Minister to extend the same level of support for Telangana’s development as was provided to Gujarat during the tenure of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The MP described it as ironic that Modi reportedly stated Telangana would not have received even half of the present assistance had support been extended in the same manner as during the Congress-led UPA regime. He asserted that several prestigious national institutions were established across the country only when the Congress was in power at the Centre.
Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy further alleged that the BJP, since assuming power, had focused on promoting communal divisions and weakening opposition parties. He claimed Modi’s political objective was to ensure the BJP remained the sole dominant force in the country.
He also alleged that the Prime Minister indirectly suggested that opposition parties should align with the BJP if they wished to secure developmental support from the Centre. “Is development possible only if one aligns with Modi? The Prime Minister represents all states equally under the federal system,” the MP said.
Stating that states were entitled to their rightful share of tax revenues, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said the Centre was constitutionally bound to treat all states fairly and equally.
He reiterated that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had only sought cooperation from the Centre for Telangana’s growth and future development, but the Prime Minister ultimately chose to make political remarks despite earlier assurances to the contrary.
