BMW hit-and-run case: Police trace vehicle, driver still at large

Chandigarh, Jan 14 (UNI) Police are continuing efforts to identify the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a young gig worker, even as complications have emerged over the ownership of the luxury vehicle allegedly used in the crash.
Investigators said the BMW car suspected to be involved in the incident has been traced, but its driver remains unidentified due to multiple ownership changes shortly before the accident. Preliminary verification revealed that the vehicle was sold more than once in recent days, and the latest buyer did not complete the mandatory transfer of registration.
According to officials, this lapse has made it difficult to immediately establish who was behind the wheel at the time of the incident. Police teams have been sent to Punjab after information suggested that the current owner may be based there. Authorities are now tracking the sale documents and questioning previous owners to reconstruct the chain of custody.
