Cabinet clears PPP Push for Nagpur Airport modernisation, paves way for 30-year GMR-led upgrade

‎New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) ‎The union Cabinet today approved the extension of the lease period of Airports Authority of India (AAI) land leased to MIHAN India Limited (MIL), clearing the way for the long-term privatisation, expansion and modernisation of Nagpur’s Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
‎Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting, union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the move would enable MIL to license the airport to GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited (GNIAL) for 30 years from the date of commercial operations.
‎Officials described the decision as a major milestone in transforming Nagpur into a regional aviation and cargo hub under the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) project.
