New Delhi, Jun 11 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the deportation of a wanted cybercrime fugitive from Thailand, marking a significant achievement in international law enforcement cooperation.
Ganesh Balaso Kale arrived in Mumbai on Thursday and was taken into custody by officials of the Cyber Cell of Maharashtra Police.
According to the CBI, Kale was wanted in connection with a cyber fraud case in which victims were lured with offers of online part-time jobs. They were persuaded to deposit money as investments and were subsequently defrauded.
A senior CBI official said, "The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and the Embassy of India in Thailand, has successfully secured the deportation of Red Notice subject Ganesh Balaso Kale from Thailand."
Investigators allege that Kale operated a network of cyber financial criminals and involved unsuspecting individuals in the scam. He allegedly promised commissions or interest in exchange for allowing the use of their bank accounts to transfer illicit funds. These accounts were then used to cheat multiple victims.
Kale is also accused of directing associates to arrange mobile phones and procure fake SIM cards to facilitate the fraudulent operations.
Based on an Interpol Red Notice, Kale was traced to Thailand and detained by Thai authorities in Bangkok on May 24. Following legal proceedings and close coordination between Indian and Thai authorities, he was successfully deported to India.
Notably, the Red Corner Notice against Kale was issued in May 2026, and he was traced, apprehended, and brought back to India within approximately 20 days of its publication, reflecting swift and effective international cooperation among the agencies involved.
