CII Green Cementech 2026 focuses on net-zero roadmap for cement industry

Hyderabad, May 14 (UNI) The 22nd edition of Green Cementech 2026, the flagship annual conference and expo for the cement industry, organised by the CII-Green Business Centre in partnership with the Cement Manufacturers Association, commenced at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on Thursday with a strong focus on sustainable and low-carbon cement manufacturing.
The two-day conference brought together more than 400 participants, including policymakers, senior industry leaders, technology providers, academic and research institutions, and sustainability experts from India and abroad.
Over the years, Green Cementech has emerged as a major platform for discussions on decarbonisation pathways, digital transformation, circular economy practices, and future-ready technologies critical for the sustainable growth of the cement sector.
Addressing the inaugural session, E R Raj Narayanan, Co-Chairman of Green Cementech 2026, said the cement industry was playing a crucial role in India’s economic growth while laying the foundation for “Viksit Bharat” through resilient and sustainable infrastructure.
He said the conference theme, “Road towards Net Zero Carbon,” reflected the direction in which the Indian cement sector was moving, with increasing focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste heat recovery systems, alternative fuels, and carbon reduction technologies.
C Shekar Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of CSR Estates Ltd, highlighted the importance of low-carbon construction materials in achieving India’s climate goals. He said the Indian Green Building Council, through its 32 regional chapters, was actively promoting awareness among architects, builders, engineers, consultants, urban planners, and students on sustainable construction practices and green infrastructure.
Masood Mallick, Chairman of the CII National Committee on Waste to Worth Technologies, emphasised the need for AI-driven solutions, material intelligence, waste utilisation, and performance-based standards to accelerate sustainability and innovation in the cement sector. He said circular economy approaches would play a major role in reducing emissions and improving resource efficiency.
Aparna Dutt Sharma said partnerships between industry bodies, policymakers, and technology providers would be critical in driving decarbonisation and sustainable growth in the cement industry.
A major highlight of the event was the launch of the publication “Carbon Capture: Technologies, Economics, and Scale-up Pathways,” focusing on emerging carbon capture and utilisation technologies for the cement sector.
The conference also featured panel discussions involving senior industry leaders on net-zero strategies, low-carbon cement technologies, digitalisation, alternative fuels, and innovations in sustainable manufacturing.
A concurrent expo featuring more than 50 exhibitors showcased cutting-edge technologies and solutions in energy efficiency, emissions reduction, waste management, renewable energy integration, and smart manufacturing systems.
Green Cementech 2026 will continue on May 15 with additional technical sessions, leadership dialogues, and industry interactions aimed at enabling a low-carbon, resilient, and digitally enabled cement industry in India.
