Cong's Jairam Ramesh reflects on Dr Ambedkar’s historic embrace of Buddhism

New Delhi, Oct 14 (UNI) Congress leader Jairam Ramesh marked the 69th anniversary on October 14 of a transformative moment in Indian history — Dr BR Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism.
Highlighting a journey that spanned nearly five decades, Ramesh paid tribute to Ambedkar’s deep and enduring engagement with Buddhist philosophy, which culminated in a bold public declaration in 1950.
“Dr. Ambedkar’s fascination with the life of the Buddha was almost half a century old, but it was only in 1950 that he began speaking regularly about his conversion in public forums,” Ramesh shared in a heartfelt post on X.
