Dehra goes green: MLA Kamlesh Thakur initiates large-scale plantation drive

Dehra, (Kangra) Sep 10 (UNI) MLA Kamlesh Thakur today inaugurated a mass plantation drive organized under the 76th Van Mahotsav in Ghed Mangarh Panchayat of Dehra Assembly constituency. The programme was organized by the Dehra Forest Division where she planted a mango sapling to mark the beginning of the campaign.
Addressing the gathering, Thakur urged every individual to plant at least one sapling, emphasizing that trees are the foundation of life and the strongest means of environmental conservation. She said that the state is facing recurring natural disasters and large-scale plantation is an effective measure to mitigate their impact.
The MLA informed that under the Rajiv Gandhi Forest Conservation Scheme, special provisions have been made for plantation and preservation. From 2025 to 2030, Mahila Mandals, Yuvak Mandals, Self-Help Groups and Joint Forest Committees will not only plant trees on one to five hectares of selected forest land but also maintain them for five years. A budgetary provision of Rs 100 crore has been made for this purpose.
