New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) Around 33.31 percent of polling was recorded till 1 pm in the Delhi Assembly election, which is underway peacefully, on Wednesday.
According to the Election Commission of India , Central Delhi Assembly Constituency recorded the lowest turnout of 29.74 percent, while the North East Constituency witnessed the highest voter turnout of 39.51 percent till 1300 hours.
President Droupadi Murmu, Senior BJP leader and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva, AAP candidate from Jangpura constituency Manish Sisodia and others were among the first few citizens to cast their votes.
Election Commissioner Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev and Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora also cast their votes.
After casting his vote, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, "They (AAP) have made Delhi sick and looted the city. Now, it’s our turn to work. Delhi is going to give us the opportunity. We are not distributing money or liquor. I urge the people of Delhi to come out of their homes and vote as much as possible."
The Voting began at 7 am this morning and will continue till 6 pm across 13,766 polling stations in the National Capital.
Around 1.56 crore citizens are eligible to vote in the city, including 83.76 lakh men, 72.36 lakh women, and 1,267 individuals from the third gender.
More than 30,000 police personnel and 220 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed across Delhi to ensure a fair and smooth voting process.
