Devanahalli farmers resume stir over land acquisition

Bengaluru, Sept 7 (UNI) The row over land acquisition for the proposed aerospace park in Channarayapatna hobli of Devanahalli taluk has resurfaced, with farmers today resuming their dharna after the government failed to withdraw the acquisition notification despite an assurance from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over 50 days ago.
A preliminary notification to acquire 1,777 acres of fertile farmland across 13 villages was issued in 2022. Farmers had launched a dharna on April 4, 2022, which lasted 1,198 days before being withdrawn on July 15 this year, following a direct assurance from Siddaramaiah that the acquisition process would be shelved.
However, farmer leaders say no formal order withdrawing the notification has been issued. Instead, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) recently served notices in two villages, asking farmers to attend a meeting to discuss compensation for their land.
