DRDO clocks 1,200-second scramjet test, boosts India’s hypersonic missile ambitions

New Delhi, May 10 (UNI) Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a major breakthrough in India’s hypersonic missile development programme by successfully conducting a long-duration ground test of an indigenously developed actively cooled full-scale scramjet combustor, marking a significant leap in advanced aerospace and strategic strike capabilities.
The test was carried out by Hyderabad-based Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) at the state-of-the-art Scramjet Connect Pipe Test (SCPT) facility on May 9, during which the combustor operated for over 1,200 seconds. The achievement builds on an earlier successful test of over 700 seconds conducted in January this year.
Officials said the combustor has been designed and developed by DRDL and realised with support from industry partners. The successful trial validates both the design of the advanced actively cooled scramjet combustor and the capabilities of the SCPT facility.
