Kolkata, July 9 (UNI) The Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port, formerly Kolkata Port, today reported a 21.21 per cent growth in Q1 cargo handling, achieving top post position among all major ports in India, official sources said.
The country's oldest and only riverine port handled an impressive 17.186 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in Q1 FY 2025-26 (April to June, 2025), marking a robust 21.21 pc growth compared to the 14.2 MMT handled in the corresponding period last year.
This remarkable achievement underscores the port's operational excellence and expanded capacity, positioning it as a key driver of India's maritime trade growth.

Odisha, ESIC ink MoU for ESI Medical College in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, May 19 (UNI) In a major boost to healthcare and medical education infrastructure in Bhubaneswar, the State’s Labour and Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Department signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Government of India, for establishment of a new ESI Medical College and Hospital at Andharua in Bhubaneswar.
Under the agreement, the Odisha government handed over the existing ESI Hospital at Chandrasekharpur to ESIC to facilitate commencement of the medical college’s initial operations, officials said.
