ECI serves show cause notice to BJP candidate & ex-judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay for

Kolkata, May 17 (UNI) The Election Commission of India on Friday served a show cause notice to the ex-judge of Calcutta High Court and BJP's Tamluk Lok Sabha candidate nominee Abhijit Gangopadhyay for his alleged "improper, injudicious and undignified" remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The ECI asked Gangopadhyay to reply by May 20 as to why appropriate action for violation of the model code of conduct should not be taken against him.
" Whereas, on careful examination, the comment is improper, injudicious, and undignified beyond dignity in every sense of the term, in bad taste and to be prima facie violative of the MOC, " the ECI said in the notice.
The ECI's action happened on a complaint by the Trinamool Congress against Gangopadhyay for his alleged remarks against the CM Mamata Banerjee while addressing an election rally on May 15 in Haldia.
Tamluk is going to poll on May 25.
The ruling party earlier in the day had lodged a complaint with the poll panel for his alleged 'sexist' remarks against the CM in the open rally.
