Previously unknown waltz of Frédéric Chopin discovered in New York

New York, Oct 31 (UNI) A previously unknown waltz - a dance music in triple metre - by iconic Polish composer Frederic Chopin has been found in the vault at the Morgan Library & Museum, nearly two centuries after his death.
According to a CNN report, the waltz is a small manuscript measuring about 4 inches by 5 inches, discovered by the curator of the museum Robin McClellan in 2019.
Instantly, he sought the help of an expert to check its authenticity, finding it peculiar for its size.
McClellan, who first noticed the manuscript in the Museum's archive, found the composition at variance, as it didn't match with any other knowm waltz of Chopin.
McClellan was aided by Chopin expert Jeffrey Kallberg, associate dean for arts and letters at the University of Pennsylvania. The research claims the manuscript dates back to the 1830s.
This particular waltz was never composed as a gift for somebody as Chopin's signature is missing,
it was meant to be played. “To hear this work for the first time will be an exciting moment for everyone in the world of classical piano", McClellan told CNN.
Collin B. Bailey, director of the Morgan Library & Museum, highlighted the significance of the discovery. According to the museum spokesperson, the work “offers a look into Chopin’s creative process,” particularly given its short length and “some interesting dynamic markings.”
Born in 1810, Chopin remains one of the cherished composers whose legacy deeply embodies Polish culture.
For the unversed, he died in 1849 at the age of 39. A controversial documentary released by Swiss Radio in 2020, depicts him having relationships with men.
The newly unearthed waltz enriches the legacy of a musician who continues to inspire pianists and audiences around the world. UNI XC SSP
