‘Kantara Chapter 1’ opens to thunderous response, clocks Rs 19.44 cr in advance booking; eyes Rs 60 cr Day 1

New Delhi, Oct 3 (UNI) Kantara Chapter 1, the much-anticipated period-mythological action drama helmed by Rishab Shetty, has finally hit the big screens, and the box office response is nothing short of phenomenal.
The film has officially registered the 6th highest pre-sales of 2025 at the Indian box office, surpassing big-ticket titles like Good Bad Ugly.
According to data shared by Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter 1 amassed a staggering Rs 19.44 crore in final advance bookings (gross, excluding blocked seats).
The figure marks a remarkable 49 percent surge in the final 24 hours leading up to the release, highlighting the massive buzz and fan anticipation surrounding the film.
According to the tracking website, Sacnilk, 'Kantara: Chapter 1' has earned Rs 60 crore net (gross minus taxes) in India on its release day.
Considering the modest budget of approximately Rs 125 crore for a film of this scale, the Day 1 collection is phenomenal. Going by the estimates, 'Kantara: Chapter 1' is said to have raked in around Rs 19-21 crore nett in the Hindi belt.
Over 74,600 tickets were sold across the country before the film’s release, with the Kannada version leading the charge, contributing approximately Rs 9.9 crore to the total pre-sales tally. The Hindi and Telugu circuits followed closely, reflecting the film's pan-India appeal.
Among the states, Karnataka unsurprisingly topped the charts, but strong numbers also came in from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, indicating a widespread response across linguistic and regional boundaries.
Directed and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the film is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, exploring the deeper roots of folklore, divine justice, and the mystical traditions of Southern India.
With its unique blend of mythology, action, and period storytelling, Kantara Chapter 1 is already being hailed as a cinematic experience that lives up to, and possibly exceeds, the high expectations set by its predecessor.
If the current momentum sustains through the weekend, the film could very well become one of the highest-grossing openers of the year.
