Jana Nayagan no show: Vijay’s ‘Theri’ re-release for Pongal to entertain fans

Chennai, Jan 11 (UNI) With the no show of his swansong film 'Jana Nayagan' over censor certificate row for this Pongal festival, actor Vijay’s fans and ardent supporters would be entertained with the re-release of ‘Theri’, the film icon’s 2016 blockbuster.
Even as the Producers of Jana Nayagan are all set to challenge in the Supreme Court the Madras High Court’s stay on the order of a single judge Bench, directing the Central Board of Film Certification to immediately issue U/A 16 certificate to the movie, team Vijay has swung into action to provide an alternative to the fans. Now, Theri is getting re-released worldwide on January 15, after a decade to serve the purpose.
It is official with Kalaipuli S Thanu of V Creations, the producers of Theri announcing this on his ‘X’ handle with a poster. Directed by Atlee, the action thriller has Vijay in dual roles as Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaya Kumar and Joseph Kuruvilla. The story is about Vijayakumar who had sacrificed his career in the police force in order to raise his daughter is caught up with his past when her life faces a threat. The film has meaty roles for both Samantha Ruth Prabu and Amy Jackson.
Interestingly, the movie has been remade in Sinhala as Goree (2019) and in Assamese as Ratnakar (2019) while two more are in the making: Baby John (Hindi), featuring Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh in the lead and Ustad Bhagat Singh (Telugu), starring Pawan Kalyan. With Siva Karthikeyan’s Parasakthi, on the anti-Hindi agitations of the 60s, which also faced problems in securing censor certification already on the run, Vijay fans cannot be left in the lurch for the reason of Jana Nayagan remaining in a limbo.
While the Congress has come to the defence of Vijay, charging the BJP and the Modi government of using CBFC as a tool to target Vijay, Kollywood had rallied behind the actor with versatile actor Kamal Hassan expressing solidarity.
