Is Pritam following the same path as Arijit Singh? His Insta post ignites discussion

Mumbai, Jun 15 (UNI) National Award-winning composer Pritam Chakraborty’s latest social media post has sparked fresh debate about whether Bollywood’s biggest music talents are gradually moving away from the mainstream, drawing comparisons with singer Arijit Singh.
On the occasion of his 55th birthday, Pritam took to his official Instagram handle to express his gratitude to his listeners, and captioned, "Today, I have decided to gift myself a few years to live life differently. To catch up on what I’ve missed. Time to set off on new journeys, which have been kept on the back burner for long. Mainstream is a great ride. But I’ve always been more curious about the roads unexplored. Thank you for all the love & support. Always…"
While the composer did not explicitly announce a retirement from mainstream cinema, his remarks have fuelled discussions among fans and industry observers about whether he intends to focus on more personal and experimental projects in the coming years.
A graduate in sound engineering from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pritam began his career composing advertising jingles, designing sound, and creating theme music for television serials. He made his film debut as a co-composer with Jeet Gannguli in the 2001 film "Tere Liye" before launching his solo career with 'Stumped' in 2003.
However, it was the soundtrack of the 2004 film "Dhoom", particularly its iconic title track, that catapulted him to widespread recognition and earned him the Zee Cine Award for Best Track of the Year.
Over the past two decades, he has composed music for more than 125 films, delivering successful soundtracks for movies including "Jab We Met", "Barfi!", "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" and "Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva". His contributions to Indian cinema have garnered numerous accolades, including a National Film Award at the 70th National Film Awards and nine Filmfare Awards.
Pritam’s latest work can be heard in the soundtrack of the already released film "Bhooth Bangla" (2026) and upcoming films "Cocktail", "Haiwaan" and "Naagzilla".
