Priyamani to play negative role in 'Golmaal 5'

Mumbai, July 8 (UNI) Known for her acclaimed performance in 'The Family Man', actress Priyamani is all set to enter a new phase of her career as she joins the cast of Golmaal 5. The actress will share screen space with Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar in the much-awaited comedy franchise, taking on an antagonist role for the first time in her illustrious career.
With a planned early 2027 theatrical release, the film has already created considerable buzz among fans.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, the fifth instalment went on floors in February 2026. The makers announced the news with a video featuring the ensemble cast, including Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, and Sharman Joshi. The on-set promotional clip also gave the audience a pleasant surprise with the addition of Kumar, marking a major casting coup.
According to reports, the 42-year-old actress, who joined the project during the initial schedule, will step away from her familiar screen image to portray the film's chief antagonist. Renowned for her performances in "The Family Man", "Article 370", and "Yamadonga", the National Award-winning actress will play a negative character in the film, according to Variety India.
With Priyamani taking on the role of a baddie, it will be interesting to see how director Rohit Shetty designs her character arc to enhance the entertainment quotient for the audience.
The project also marks another collaboration between Priyamani and Shetty, following her memorable appearance in the song "1 2 3 4 Get on the Dance Floor" from "Chennai Express". She had earlier collaborated with Devgn in "Maidaan", making "Golmaal 5" another notable milestone in their professional association.
Apart from the lead cast, the movie will also mark the return of Johny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar, thus adding fun and chaos to the storytelling. The franchise, which kicked off with "Golmaal: Fun Unlimited" in 2006, completes two decades this year. Through its four parts to date, the franchise has amassed over Rs 600 crore at the box office worldwide.
