EU to work with Venezuelan interim govt of Delcy Rodriguez in a 'targeted engagement' despite its non-recognition

Brussels, Jan 7 (UNI) The European Union, despite not recognising the Venezuelan interim government of the current acting President Delcy Rodriguez, will continue to maintain a "targeted engagement" with her cabinet, in order to safeguard its interests in Caracas, said European Commission spokesperson Anna Hipper during a briefing in Brussels.
"Delcy Rodriguez has just been sworn as interim president of Venezuela. The authorities in Venezuela derived their mandate from an electoral process that failed to respect the will of the people for democratic change," she said.
"Even though we have not recognised the legitimacy of President Maduro and the same for Delcy Rodriguez as such, we will maintain targeted engagement through the Venezuelan authorities to safeguard our own interests," Hipper added.
