European Parliament clears way for EU-US trade pact

Brussels, June 16 (UNI) The European Parliament has approved a major procedural and political hurdle that brings the EU significantly closer to lowering tariffs on American agricultural and industrial goods, marking a decisive step toward implementing the broader trade agreement reached between Washington and Brussels last summer.
During the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg, MEPs have overwhelmingly approved two bills that implement the EU's tariff commitments under the EU-US trade agreement.
The regulation, which removes tariffs on U.S. industrial goods and provides preferential market access for a wide range of U.S. seafood and agricultural products, was approved with 440 "yes" votes, 151 against, and 50 abstentions. The outcome signals strong institutional backing for the tariff adjustments, despite lingering political sensitivities around the deal.
