Explosion at Titagarh flat in North 24 Parganas, no casualty

Kolkata, May 19 (UNI) An explosion in a flat rocked the industrial town of Titagarh under the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate in North 24 Parganas on Monday morning triggering panic among residents, police and eye-witnesses said.
There was no casualty in the blast, the police said, adding it set the residents on edge in the jute mills belt. A part of a wall collapsed in the impact of the explosion at Bashbagan block.
The explosion was reported on the top 5th floor around 6:30 am, which is allegedly rented by TMC councillor Md Riazudding alias Arman Mondal of Ward No. 4, said the building promoter Anil Gupta. Gupta told reporters that the Councillor was not returning the keys.
However, the Councillor denied the charge and alleged he was being targeted by the promoter. He claimed the explosion spot is a hall and not a flat.
Personnel from the Titagarh police station and bomb squad reached the spot and said the blast took place in the toilet of the flat, where the explosives were stored, official sources said.
Police said they have cordoned off the flat where they have found a carrom board. The flat was vacant at the time of explosion.
