Farmers ’ agitation turns violent: protesters target Mantralaya, Gateway of India; Tupkar warns of state-wide march

Mumbai, Jun 18 (UNI) The four-day-old hunger strike led by farmer leader Ravikant Tupkar took a violent turn on Thursday, as protests over debt waiver and crop insurance issues escalated into arson and high-voltage security dramas across Maharashtra.
With Tupkar’s health condition reported to be critical and the state government maintaining silence on the agitators' demands, the protests have spiraled out of control. Reports of state government offices and toll plazas being torched have been pouring in from Vidarbha and other agrarian regions.
In the state capital, the situation reached a flashpoint when hundreds of Tupkar’s supporters converged at two high-security zones. Outside the Mantralaya, a protester sparked panic by climbing a tree with a bag of crude 'sutali' bombs. As police attempted to negotiate his descent, the activist hurled explosives at the security personnel and began singing the national anthem, creating a chaotic standoff.
