Five of family killed in car-lorry smash in TN

Chennai, Sep 12 (UNI) In a tragic incident, five members of a family were killed when
the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Chidambaram P.Putlur
outer ring road on the Villuppuram-Nagapattinam National Highway in Cuddalore district
of Tamil Nadu on Thursday early morning.
The deceased included two women and a two-year-old child.
Police sources said the lorry was proceeding to Cuddalore from Chidambaram and the
victims in the car were on their way to Kuthalam in Mayiladuthurai district after visiting
their relative undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai when the mishap occurred.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Government hospital for autopsy.
The impact of the high speed collision was such that the car was reduced to a mangled
heap.
Reports said the car driver had allegedly dozed off leading to the accident.
The lorry driver fled the scene and a search was on to nab him.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
