Former CM Shanta Kumar thanks PM Modi for visiting Himachal during disaster

Palampur, Sep 8 (UNI): Former Chief Minister and former union Minister Shanta Kumar on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dharamshala amidst the ongoing severe disaster is of immense significance. “The Prime Minister has considered Himachal as his second home and decided to visit the state in such difficult times. For this, I extend my heartfelt thanks to him,” he said.
Shanta Kumar added that the simplification of the GST system has provided great relief to the people of India during this disaster, as many essential commodities have become cheaper. He paid rich tributes to late Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for his efforts in implementing GST across the country. “I still remember the struggle to bring GST into force. Many states, particularly those ruled by the Opposition, resisted it, but Arun Jaitley ji held several rounds of meetings with different states and eventually gave India a strong tax system. Today, people are getting relief from it, and I salute his memory,” he said.
The veteran leader also congratulated Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the Himachal government for achieving the national target of full literacy five years ahead of schedule. “The people of Himachal deserve congratulations, as do the earlier governments who worked consistently towards the goal of complete literacy,” Shanta Kumar remarked.
