Glen Powell’s ‘The Running Man’ sets Paramount streaming date

Los Angeles, Jan 12 (UNI) The Running Man is sprinting from theaters to home viewing, with the action-comedy starring Glen Powell set to debut on Paramount on Jan 13, according to Variety.
Directed by Edgar Wright, the film is adapted from Stephen King’s 1982 novel of the same name, originally published under the author’s longtime pseudonym, Richard Bachman.
The story follows Ben Richards (Powell), a blacklisted blue-collar worker in a dystopian future who enters a deadly televised game show in a desperate attempt to lift his family out of poverty.
To win the USD 1 billion prize, Richards must survive 30 days while being hunted by network mercenaries and ordinary civilians alike.
Powell leads an ensemble cast that includes Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson and Sean Hayes.
Paramount released the film theatrically on Nov 14 in 3,534 theaters. Produced by Wright alongside Simon Kinberg and Nira Park, The Running Man opened with USD 16.5 million at the domestic box office, finishing second behind Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, which debuted the same weekend, as per Variety.
The film ultimately earned more than USD 69 million worldwide against a reported USD 110 million budget and received mixed reviews.
Wright’s version marks the second feature-film adaptation of King’s novel, following the 1987 TriStar Pictures release directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Richards.
