Governor’s Rule in Chakma ADC in Mizoram extended by six months amid political churn

Aizawl, Jan 13 (UNI) The Mizoram government has notified the extension of Governor’s Rule in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) for a further period of six months, citing continuing political instability and the pendency of an Inquiry Commission report.
According to a notification issued on January 12, the Governor has ordered that Governor’s Rule will continue with effect from January 7, 2026, or until further orders. The decision was taken in view of frequent changes in political allegiance among elected Members of the District Council and the absence of conditions conducive to restoring the council to political leadership at this stage.
During the extended period of Governor’s Rule, all powers and functions of the Chakma Autonomous District Council will be exercised by the Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai district on behalf of the Governor of Mizoram, in accordance with the provisions of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.
