New Delhi, May 18 (UNI) A day after Delhi Police caught a man accused of impersonating former Lava International managing director Hari Om Rai during a medical check-up at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital, the smartphone company on Saturday said that Rai does not hold any directorial position in the firm.
"We would like to inform you that Hari Om Rai has resigned from Lava board in last financial year. Currently, he is not the Managing Director of the company and does not hold any directorial position in the company," a company spokesperson said.
"Hence, we kindly request you to avoid associating his name with our company in any capacity," the spokesperson added.
Hari Om Rai is an accused in a money-laundering case involving Chinese handset maker Vivo by Enforcement Directorate (ED) and is on bail on medical grounds. Rai recently moved a plea in the Delhi High Court for extension of the bail citing cardiac issues.
It has now emerged that a person named Naval Kishor Ram turned up at ECHO lab of AIIMs, Delhi masquerading as Hari Om Rai. Sources in Delhi Police said Ram was undergoing cardiac test in the name of Hari Om Rai using Court papers. But as soon as ED officials reached the hospital to supervise the medical check-up, his cover was blown. Later, at the behest of ED, an FIR was filed against Ram, Hari Om Rai and others. All the accused have now been charged with criminal conspiracy.
Hari Om Rai has been accused of sending Naval Kishor Ram as an imposter to get cardiac test done and using the medical report to secure bail extension.
