HC seeks DRI chargesheet in Ranya Rao case during Yatnal hearing

Bengaluru, June 10 (UNI) In a development that has brought the spotlight back on the sensational gold smuggling case involving actress Ranya Rao, the Karnataka High Court has sought the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) charge sheet and complete trial court records while hearing BJP MLA Basanagouda R Patil Yatnal's plea to quash an FIR lodged against him over remarks allegedly made about the actress.
Justice M Nagaprasanna directed the State government to secure the entire investigation and trial records, including the DRI report and charge sheet, to examine the context and veracity of the statements attributed to Yatnal, who faces charges under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly insulting the modesty of a woman.
The court's move effectively places the contents of the DRI investigation at the centre of the legal battle, with both sides relying on the circumstances surrounding the gold smuggling case to support their arguments.
