Heavy rainfall warning issued for Maharashtra

Pune Sep 4 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across most parts of Maharashtra for the next two days due to a low-pressure belt formed over the Bay of Bengal. While Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi are already facing flood-like situations due to continuous heavy rain, a similar alert has been sounded for Maharashtra.
In Mumbai and its suburbs, light showers are expected today, but the IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Sindhudurg, as well as parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada over the next two days. With one more month of the monsoon season remaining, most of the state’s reservoirs have already reached 100 percent capacity, and water discharge has begun.
The Godavari River has flooded twice this season, badly affecting Nanded city and nearby areas. Heavy rains have also caused significant crop damage across several regions, forcing many farmers to undertake re-sowing. However, with ample water storage, there will be no shortage of drinking and utility water this year.
