HP: NGO demands to stop blasting in Himalayan region

Shimla, Feb 18 (UNI) An NGO has written a letter to Himachal Pradesh chief secretary and Union Ministry of Environment demanding to withdraw the permission granted for open blasting during construction of National Highway 702 in delicate Himalayan region.
Previously, the "controlled blasting" in the area had caused serious damage. Rocks and debris were thrown into nearby villages like Pati, destroying trees and plants. This had harmed the environment and increased the risk of landslides.
Seeing this, social worker and environmentalist Nathu Ram Chauhan has written to the state government asking them to stop the blasting.
