HP: Snowfall and thunderstorm disrupt normal life across Shimla and surrounding areas

Shimla, Jan 23 (UNI) Normal life was thrown out of gear across the state on Thursday following widespread snowfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, with the impact most visible in the capital town of and its adjoining areas.
Shimla recorded around 10 cm of fresh snowfall, while the Old Hindustan–Tibet National Highway (NH-5) was closed near Kufri after heavy snow accumulated on the road surface, severely affecting vehicular movement.
Reports reaching said that an electric bus was stranded on a thin sheet of snow near the Power House area in Shimla, highlighting the sudden deterioration in road conditions. The IGMC road witnessed about one inch of snowfall; however, ambulance and patient vehicles continued to operate cautiously, ensuring that emergency services were not disrupted.
