Imran's bail plea hearing cancelled as judge goes on leave

Islamabad, June 12 (UNI) Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan expressed hope for the early release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi in the 190 million pounds case, which was cancelled after a judge went on leave.
Justice Mohammad Arif, a member of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) division bench, went on leave, due to which the case was dropped from the cause list.
Senior PTI members went to IHC, met officials in the chief justice’s secretariat to ask for rescheduling for hearing. The court fixed June 26 for hearing the plea, seeking suspension of sentence, Dawn reported.
PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the Natio¬nal Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, were among the PTI leaders who went to the Islamabad High Court.
Talking to the media, PTI chairman expressed his disappointment over the delay, and hoped for Imran Khan’s early release.
“The judge was on leave, so the case could not be heard today. But the day is not far when the PTI founder would walk free,” he told Dawn.
He also highlighted the sharp decline of Pakistan’s position in the Rule of Law index, which is now 129, down from 97 in 1996.
