India ramps up citizen support as West Asia crisis disrupts region

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) Amid the evolving crisis in West Asia, the Centre on Monday sought to reassure citizens over the availability of essential commodities and the safety of Indians in the region, asserting that fuel, fertiliser, and shipping operations remain stable while evacuation and assistance efforts for Indian nationals continue at full scale.
At an inter-ministerial media briefing held at the National Media Centre here, officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Ports, Shipping and Waterways, External Affairs, and Information and Broadcasting provided updates on fuel availability, maritime operations, and the welfare of Indians stranded in affected regions.
The government said fertiliser stocks for the upcoming Kharif 2026 season are at comfortable levels, with total inventory standing at 199.65 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) as of May 11 — over 51 per cent of the assessed requirement of 390.54 LMT, significantly higher than the usual stocking level of around 33 per cent. Officials said the improved stock position reflects better planning, advanced stocking, and efficient logistics management.
