Is Opposition AIADMK heading for a split : Rival factions with two-third legislators proposes ex-Minister SP Velumani as Legislature Party leader

Chennai, May 11 (UNI) Even as the AIADMK is yet to recover from the severe drubbing it had received in the assembly elections finishing third continuing its losing streak that started in 2017, the party has literally split with two factions submitting separate letters to claim the post of Legislature Party (LP) leader in the 234-member House on Monday.
While the AIADMK, heading the NDA in the state, secured 47 seats in the election, only 17 MLAs was said to have extended their support to party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). The letter submitted to the Pro-Tem Speaker by EPS in the morning, had the signatures of only those 17, according to reports, though an official word has not come from the Speaker's office.
On the other hand, 30 MLAs headed by former Minister and present Rajya Sabha MP, a strongman in Villupuram district in Northern TN, have signed the letter submitted in the evening, proposing the name of another former Minister and senior leader S P Velumani, a strongman in Kongu belt.
