Ishaan Khatter shares heartfelt post after ‘Homebound’ misses Oscars nomination

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) ‘Homebound’, India’s official submission to the Academy Awards, had earlier secured a place on the Oscars shortlist but ultimately missed out on a final nomination. Despite the setback, the film’s journey was met with gratitude and pride rather than disappointment.
Ishaan Khatter, who is one of the lead actors of the film marked the moment by sharing behind-the-scenes photos from the film on Instagram, accompanied by an emotional note.
Describing Homebound “a piece of my heart,” Ishaan reflected on the film’s deeply personal journey and its hopeful core despite portraying a difficult reality.
The post read, "Homebound is and always was a piece of my heart. It's a story that took us on a journey inwards after daring to look outside the bubble we identify ourselves in. As difficult a reality as it mirrors, this film has always ultimately been hopeful to me in every way I can relate to it, as a human being, as a cinema person, and a young actor."
He also praised director Neeraj Ghaywan, calling him a moral compass and someone whose conscience he deeply trusts.
He further added, "Today, as we somewhat come to an end of one part of its journey, I know I will always look back at it with love and gratitude... And as a sort of moral compass Neeraj Ghaywan I love you, brother. There are very few people I can say this about, but I know I can always trust your conscience as a yardstick. Love to all the heroes behind the camera and to all of you who owned this film and spoke of it like your own. Homebound to infinity, no feeling is final."
Neeraj Ghaywan responded warmly in the comments, writing, “Love you, Ishaan! The last frame killed me, again!”
Following the announcement of nominations for the 98th Academy Awards, producer Karan Johar also shared his reaction on Instagram.
Posting stills from the film on his Stories, he applauded Ghaywan’s vision and dedication, writing, “Proud!!! Love you neeraj.ghaywan for allowing us to bask in your light!”
Ghaywan re-shared the post and thanked Johar for his unwavering support throughout the film’s journey, calling him “an absolute rock.”
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, ‘Homebound’ released in Indian theatres on September 26, 2025.
The film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, and explores the emotional fractures of a dysfunctional family confined to a single space during a lockdown-like crisis.
Through intense confrontations, the story delves into themes of trauma, redemption, and long-buried secrets.
