ISRO Chief flags off GSLV Second Stage to Sriharikota for NISAR Mission

Chennai, Apr 26 (UNI) The Second Stage (GS2) of ISRO’s GSLV launch vehicle
was flagged off to the spaceport of Sriharikota for the Indo-US joint NISAR Satellite
launch mission, scheduled for June.
The GS2 stage is a key component of the GSLV, utilizing a high-thrust hypergolic
liquid propellant Vikas engine for its power, according to ISRO.
It was flagged off by Dr. V. Narayanan, Secretary, DOS/ Chairman, ISRO, on
April 24, 2025, from the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC), Mahendragiri, to
the launch complex at Sriharikota.
The Directors of ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) and Vikram Sarabhai Space
Centre (VSSC) also participated in the flag off ceremony.
This liquid stage is earmarked for the upcoming mission of GSLV (GSLV-F16),
that will launch the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite.
The launch campaign activities for this mission have already commenced at
Sriharikota in the first week of this month (April).
NISAR is an advanced microwave remote sensing satellite with dual band
synthetic aperture radar featuring sweep-SAR technology.
This satellite will map the entire globe in 12 days. NISAR features advanced
RADAR imaging that will provide unique data in regard to Earth Observations
related to Agriculture, likelihood of earthquakes, landslides etc.
