Jackal beaten to death by villagers in Bahraich after attacking man and daughter

Bahraich, October 5 (UNI) A jackal was beaten to death by villagers in Tehdia village of Bahraich district late Saturday night after it attacked a man and his daughter, forest officials confirmed on Sunday. The victims, identified as Raj Kumar (41) and his daughter Sushila (21), sustained injuries and were admitted to a local hospital for treatment.According to Bahraich Divisional Forest Officer Ram Singh Yadav, a team from the forest department rushed to the spot upon receiving information and recovered the animal’s carcass. It has been sent for postmortem, and the report is awaited.
The incident occurred when Sushila was heading to the fields and was suddenly attacked by the jackal. Her screams alerted her father, Raj Kumar, who tried to rescue her but was also injured in the process. Hearing their cries, nearby villagers gathered quickly. The jackal reportedly fled towards Raj Kumar’s house, where it was surrounded and killed by the angry residents.
The attack comes amid rising panic in the region, where residents of six villages in Bahraich district have been living in fear of wolf attacks over the past three weeks. So far, six people have died and around 20 others have been injured in separate incidents believed to involve wolves.

Awards amounting to another Rs 1,899 crore are ready for disbursement, he added. .
