Jaya Prada to front Ujjwal Chatterjee's 'Hirak Ranir Deshe'

Kolkata, June 9 (UNI) Veteran actress Jaya Prada has been roped in for a pivotal role in Hirak Ranir Deshe, an upcoming bilingual political satire from two-time National Award-winning director Ujjwal Chatterjee.
The film is set to go on floors on June 21 and is targeting October 2026 for its release, which coincides with Bengalis' biggest festival, Durga Puja.
The project marks the actress’s 295th film, with Jaya Prada set to essay one of the most substantial roles of her career in recent years.
The actress is expected to play a key part in the story, although no official information about her character or the storyline has been revealed.
The film also features actors associated with the Bengali film industry, including Bhaskar Chatterjee, Rajnandini Dutta, Amrita Chattopadhyay, Debolina Dutta and Badshah Moitra in pivotal roles.
Subhashish Ghatak has crafted the narrative, with Shirsha Roy handling the camera work.
The announcement comes shortly after Chatterjee decided to shelve Tilottama, a project reportedly inspired by the RG Kar Medical College tragedy of August 2024. The makers eventually decided not to proceed with the film after the victim's parents reportedly withheld their approval.
