Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley to write, direct new ‘Star Trek’ film

Los Angeles, Nov 16 (UNI) Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the filmmaking duo behind ‘Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ and the screenplay for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ have been tapped to write and direct a new ‘Star Trek’ movie, Variety reports.
The outlet notes that this upcoming film will not continue the J.J. Abrams-led reboot and will exclude Chris Pine and other actors from those previous movies.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, and the project is reportedly unconnected to any existing television series, films, or past development projects.
Since ‘Star Trek Beyond’ premiered in 2016, attempts to launch a new installment have faced numerous hurdles. At different points, Chris Hemsworth nearly reprised his role as Captain Kirk’s father, Quentin Tarantino almost directed a gangster-era take, and filmmakers Noah Hawley and Matt Shakman were close to bringing their own visions to life—only for both projects to stall.
Goldstein and Daley previously helmed New Line’s comedy ‘Game Night’ and directed the studio’s ‘Vacation’ reboot. Their additional writing credits include ‘Horrible Bosses’ and ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.’
This new chapter marks a fresh direction for the iconic sci-fi franchise, signaling an original story untethered from the previous films.
