Kapil Sharma receives warning from MNS for referring to Mumbai as 'Bombay' on comedy show

New Delhi, Sep 12 (UNI) Popular comedian and television host Kapil Sharma has come under fire from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for referring to Mumbai as "Bombay" during a recent episode of his comedy show which is being aired on Netflix.
He has been warned to stop using the city's former name, stating it's an insult to the city and its people.
The MNS, known for its strong regional stance, issued a stern warning to Sharma, demanding an apology and cautioning him against repeating the "mistake."
In the post shared on X, MNS spokesperson Ameya Khopkar expressed his displeasure along with a clip from Kapil’s show on Netflix.
“Mumbai is not Bombay. Every public figure must respect the official name of the city. If Kapil Sharma repeats this again, we will take serious action,” he added.
“It was officially recognised by the Maharashtra Government in 1995 and by the Central Government in 1996, even before Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Therefore, a humble request-cum-warning is being issued to respect this and use the name Mumbai,” the post added. He tagged Kapil as well as Netflix in his post.
Giving a warning to Kapil, Ameya wrote, “Even though 30 years have passed since Bombay was officially renamed Mumbai, the term Bombay is still frequently used in Bollywood’s Kapil Sharma Show celebrity guests, Delhi-based Rajya Sabha MPs, show anchors, and in many Hindi films.”
Currently, Kapil Sharma is hosting the third season of his hit Netflix series, The Great Indian Kapil Show, where he welcomes celebrity guests for lighthearted conversations and comedy segments.
The show, which also features Archana Puran Singh, Sunil Grover, and Kiku Sharda, first premiered on Netflix in 2024 and has since released two successful seasons, each comprising 13 episodes.
The ongoing third season continues to entertain audiences with its signature blend of humor and star-studded appearances.
