Karnataka HC annuls Cong MLA Nanjegowda's election

Bengaluru, Sept 16 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today quashed the 2023 election of Congress legislator KY Nanjegowda from the Malur Assembly constituency in Kolar district, ordering that votes be recounted and results declared afresh.
Delivering a detailed judgment, Justice R Devdas allowed in part the election petition filed by BJP candidate KS Manjunath Gowda, who had lost to Nanjegowda by a slender margin of 248 votes in the May 2023 Assembly polls. The court said the election of respondent no.1 stood set aside, and a recount of votes must be undertaken before final results are announced again.
"The Election Commission of India is directed to ensure recounting of votes and declaration of results afresh of Malur Assembly constituency within four weeks from the date of receipt of this judgment. All other procedures after declaration of results shall be followed in accordance with law," the court said in its order.
