Karnataka HC terms stampede report shocking

Bengaluru, Aug 13 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today expressed concern over portions of the judicial inquiry commission’s report on the Bengaluru stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, with an oral remark that “some observations in the report are shocking… these are not hardened criminals.”
The bench of Justices J Banerji and U Adiga made the comment while hearing a plea by DNA Entertainment Limited, organiser of the RCB IPL victory parade, challenging the commission’s findings. The court refrained from making formal observations at this stage but signalled unease over the language and implications of the report.
Taking note of the petitioner’s claim that the report had been finalised without recording statements from witnesses, the bench directed the state government to file its objections within three weeks. It also accepted the state’s assurance that the report would not be published or circulated in the public domain and ordered it to be kept in a sealed cover with the Registrar General.
