Kejriwal gets bail in liquor policy case

New Delhi, June 20 (UNI) Arvind Kejriwal got a big relief from a Delhi court which granted him regular bail in the liquor policy case on Thursday, paving the way for the Delhi Chief Minister to step out of jail on Friday and resume his official duties.

Rouse Avenue court's Vacation Judge Nyay Bindu granted bail to Kejriwal, who was arrested on March 21 and was out for about a week on interim bail in May for election campaign, on furnishing a bail bond of Rs one lakh.

The development comes as good news for thirsty Delhiites suffering due to the absence of the head of the elected government and the related perceived governance vacuum during peak summers.

Kejriwal was arrested for his alleged role in the money laundering case linked to the purported liquor policy scam suspected to involve over Rs 100 crore.

Counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the bail application and requested for time till the probe agency exercised its legal remedies for opposing the bail. However, the court rejected the plea and passed the bail order around 8 pm, after reserving its order following the hearing during the day.

ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21 and on May 10 he got interim bail from the Supreme Court till June 1 in view of the general elections. He surrendered before the court on June 2, as his interim bail period ended.
