Kerala: Congress leader Sudhakaran meets former CPI(M) leader Padmanabhan in Kannur

Kannur, Jan 14 (UNI) In the backdrop of Aysha Potti, former CPI(M) Kottarkara MLA joining the Congress Party on last day at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) working president and MP, K Sudhakaran, today met CPI(M) leader and former Taliparamba MLA, C.K.P. Padmanabhan, at the latter's residence in Kunhimangalam in Kannur.
The meeting has sparked speculation that another former CPI(M) State leader from Kannur district, considered a CPI(M) stronghold district, may join the Congress party ahead of the upcoming assembly election.
The CPI(M) had removed State Committee member, former CPI(M) Taliparamba MLA (2006-2011) and ex-State Secretary of Karshaka Sangham, CKP Padmanabhan, citing failure to properly maintain the organization's accounts and lack of vigilance in financial matters of Karshaka Sangam on September 18, 2012. Although the CPI(M) district committee later retained his membership under the Madayi Area Committee, he was again dropped from the party in November 2024, with the leadership citing ill health due to kidney-related illness.
