Kharge slams Modi over third-party 'ceasefire'

Kalaburagi, May 12 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge on Monday lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, terming the 'ceasefire' announcement by a third country a 'diplomatic failure' and demanding immediate convening of Parliament and an all-party meeting to discuss the ongoing security situation.
Speaking to media, Kharge expressed concern that the ceasefire, which followed a statement by the President of the United States, was announced without any clarity from the Indian government. "Who is controlling the foreign policy of this country?" he asked, accusing the Prime Minister, the National Security Advisor, and the External Affairs Minister of failing to uphold India's strategic interests.
Kharge praised the Indian Army for its "brilliant job" in dealing with Pakistan, but criticised the political leadership for failing to prevent the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from releasing a USD 2.5 billion loan to Islamabad. "Despite our brave soldiers' efforts, the government failed to gather international support or stop funding to Pakistan," he said.
