KSCA says IPL playoff shift decision not explained: Spokesman Mruthunjaya

Bengaluru, May 6 (UNI) The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has clarified that the decision to shift the IPL playoff and final matches from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad rests solely with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), even as it expressed disappointment over the lack of formal communication on the move.
KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mruthyunjaya said the state body had no authority over the allocation of knockout fixtures, stressing that venue decisions remain entirely with the BCCI. “It is always the prerogative of the BCCI. The state association does not have any right to host playoff matches,” he said.
Addressing the reported shift of matches from the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, he pointed out that while there is a convention of awarding playoff games to the defending champions’ home venue, logistical and operational concerns had been raised following the June 4 incident. Despite those challenges, he said KSCA successfully conducted five IPL league matches for the RCB franchise without major disruption.
